Legend for the German rankings


The Rankings

Six restaurant guides and their awards are used to calculate the Volkenborn rankings. The awards are converted into points which are then transformed into something similar to the French schools' grading system. Due to the varying methods used when allocating the 'grades' the guides are given a different weighting each year. On principle only the five best awards are used to calculate the rankings. In addition any bonus points the guides award are included in the calculation: these include service, atmosphere, showing promise,  price per course ratio and choice of wines.
Theoretically in 2009 only a maximum of 102.2 points could be achieved.

The numbers in brackets show the restaurants assessed.

By using data from six restaurant guides we are able to establish very fine nuances and can thereby avoid having several restaurants sharing a particular ranking position.
